Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout the years, such as fiscal reform, the budget, and The Iran Contra affair. She travelled frequently together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
